McLaren's product pipeline is cooking 2014

McLaren Automotive COO Mike Flewitt was in a good mood when we caught up with him for a few minutes here in Geneva. And why wouldn't he be? The McLaren stand was constantly abuzz as media, well-heeled customers, and other VIPs filed in and out of the stand. On display are the P1 and the MP4-12C lineup, as well as one of the unicorn-rare F1 LM cars.
Flewitt's as excited as everyone else about the P1, and said that the company is working through the long list of hand-raisers who've already shown interest in plunking down a million-plus bucks to take home the organic-looking supercar. And based on Flewitt's experience, it's likely that several P1s will land in Stateside. So far, the U.S. accounts for some 45% of the automaker's sales.

The conversation took a natural turn to the LaFerrari, creating its own mob scene on the other side of the Palexpo exhibition center. While the P1's stated top speed is 217 mph, that's an electronically limited number. "Our engineers feel we can beat it on top speed, and that we'll be faster around a circuit," he said of the P1's performance potential. All said with a smile, mind you. Flewitt understands better than anyone what a boon it is for enthusiasts to have McLaren and Ferrari launching flagship supercars at the same time. It's Ali-Frazier with million-dollar cars, as much fun for him as it is for you and me.
When we asked how McLaren follows up the P1, Flewitt was surprisingly forthcoming, while also managing to avoid specifics. We can confirm, however, that the next McLaren model will be a new MP4-12C variation, due next year. And then, get ready. An all-new McLaren will debut in 2015. Commence speculating, kids.
For now, however, it's going to be a big ongoing P1 party. So if you're looking to buy, let those guys know. P1 customers get to visit Woking as part of the process.
